A Monument Restored
It is interesting to note that, while statues and monuments are being torn down, here in Victoria, we have restored and reinstalled the monument to the British – Russian Treaty of 1825, also known as the Treaty of St. Petersburg. This treaty established the borders of early 19th century Russian influence which resulted, when British Columbia’s and Canada’s boundaries were finally determined, that the northern interior of British Columbia and the Yukon Territory would be Canadian.
This monument has been restored by the City of Victoria’s Parks Department and can be seen at the end of the Causeway near the Steamship Terminal Building. Treaty of St Petersburg 1825
